Cranksgiving in Seattle: Who wants to help make it happen?

After reading about other cities’ Cranksgiving races (like the one in my hometown of St. Louis, above) I went on a search for one in Seattle. So far, I haven’t found anyone organizing it (if someone is, let me know in the comments). That means it’s up to us to make this happen.

Basically, Cranksgiving is a bike race food drive. Racers are given a map with certain grocery stores (and, perhaps, farmer’s markets?) and have to buy one item at each store. First one to return with all the items and receipts from each store wins (perhaps a donated prize of some kind?). All the food purchased goes to charity. There is no entry fee, but riders will need $10-20 to buy the groceries on the list.

We want to do this before Thanksgiving. Maybe the 20th or 21st would work well. I am thinking the Central District/Capitol Hill/International District area is probably a good place to center it since these areas have a high density of grocery stores. But if you have another idea, let me know in the comments.

I have never organized anything like this before, but I love this idea. If anyone wants to help out/advise, shoot me an email or write in the comments. With such late notice, the event will probably be small compared to other cities, but it should still be a fun time.
