Cascade stations will keep you and your bike in shape

Cascade Bicycle Club is setting up stations along the Burke-Gilman, Elliott Bay and I-90 Trails through the end of summer to do little things for people riding bikes. Sometimes they will pump up your tires or grease your chain. Or they might give you a little snack.

I love this idea. It’s simple and small, but it’s amazing how many squeaky chains or low tires you see on the roads. Remember the first time you realized that it’s way easier to bike with properly-inflated tires or a lubed chain? It was like magic. You mean all I have to do is squirt some of this on the chain and everything is easier? Crazy!

Hopefully the stands will teach more people these simple bike maintenance tips that make regular bicycle use in our hilly city that much more possible and appealing.

From Cascade:

Starting on Wednesday, Aug. 24, we will have Energizer Stations set up every week to help keep you rolling. We will provide a different service every week for a series of 5 weeks: pumping tires, providing snacks, greasing chains, cooling you off, and mapping routes.

Look for us on the Burke Gilman Trail on Wednesday afternoons: 8/24, 8/31. 9/7, 9/13, and 9/21.

Look for us at the I-90 Trail on Friday afternoons: 8/26, 9/2, 9/9, 9/16, and 9/23.

Look for us on the Elliott Bay Trail on Monday afternoons: 8/29, 9/5, 9/12, 9/19, and 9/26.

Are they just doing this for the sport of it? I’m curious WHY they are doing this? It’s cool but wondering if they are trying to promote anything. I assume these are volunteer positions.

Too bad they’re avoiding West Seattle and it’s very sizable population of commuters.
