Seattle’s First In-street Scrabble Tournament to be Played Today
WHAT: Seattle’s first scrabble tournament played in the street, to take place on First Hill.
WHEN: Tuesday, August 12, from 4 to 7 p.m.
WHERE: The intersection of University Street, Union Street and Boylston Avenue
Sixteen participants, chosen by lottery, will play in a speed Scrabble tournament using a handcrafted, life sized board placed in the street. The intersection of University Street, Union Street and Boylston Avenue is closed for the event.
This tournament brings attention to the First Hill Public Realm Action Plan, a collaborative effort led by the Seattle Department of Transportation, the Department of Planning & Development, and the Seattle Parks and Recreation Department, and supported by the First Hill Improvement Association. This action plan seeks to develop a new public space network on First Hill. This particular intersection has been identified as a potential park space and gateway for a new neighborhood greenway on University Street.
Additionally, there will be live music, food trucks and many more fun activities in celebration of creating more open space on First Hill.
