I stumbled along this new project while returning from dinner one night in Issaquah. It’s pretty clear when you see a new bike lane going in. I think it’s great as arguably this was the most dangerous section of the entire length of the West Lake Sammamish route. When the East Lake Sammamish trail is finally and completely paved over the years, you’ll really have something.

The biggest problem was North bound.. from the looks of it, they put the new path on the East side, I do hope they don’t want us bicyclists to cross over and then back to use it when we are riding Southbound.

The other big problem with this road is the Microsoft/Redmond commuter traffic heading South in the Evening and North in the morning. It backs up pretty badly, with just before it clogging up, a lot of speeding as folks rush to beat the backlog.

From the diagram, the trail is on the West side. Northbound cyclists have a 4 foot shoulder on the east side of the street. I’d probably use the shoulder rather than cross the street to use the trail northbound.

Looks like it may actually be an all ages and abilities trail – woohoo!

The northbound shoulder is a nice addition, but the southbound shoulder has been eliminated and replaced with a shared walkway/cycle tail. Now southbound cyclist are forced to merge onto the trail, reduce speed and share the tail with walkers, joggers and “all ages” cyclist going in both directions. A better option would have been to keep the shoulder for faster cyclist going south in addition to the separated trail.

    1. Maybe just putting in straight-up bike lanes that could double as pseudo-sidewalks? Is there enough width for either of these?
