Climbing lane coming to 5th Ave NE near Northgate Mall

Several days ago, Maple Leaf Life noted that markings are on the pavement on 5th Ave NE for a new bike lane. There will soon be an uphill climbing lane with sharrows on the downhill between NE 85th and NE 115th. SDOT’s Brian Dougherty told Maple Leaf Life:

“There will not be any reduction in the number of travel lanes, although the new general travel lanes will be slightly narrower than before.  There will be some temporary parking restrictions during installation.  The project should be complete by the end of this month if weather allows.”

This will be nice. I use the Northgate Group Health and the only time I ever ride on a sidewalk is when I’m leaving GHC and heading south (uphill) on Fifth. Traffic’s crazy there.
