Tues, 10/18, at the People’s Budget Town Hall
On Tuesday, Oct 18, activists, human service providers, and community members will be gathering for the People’s Budget Town Hall at City Hall, to organize and fight for a budget that meets the needs of ordinary people in Seattle.
Seattle’s tech boom has made fortunes for a few, but the increasing economic, racial, and gender inequality is making it ever more difficult for the rest of us to get by. Rents are racing out of control, homelessness is skyrocketing, social services are chronically underfunded, and communities of color have been left behind.
In the face of all this, the Mayor has once again put forward a status quo business-as-usual budget that falls flat in addressing our city’s greatest needs. We can do better.
Building on last year’s success, the People’s Budget Town Hall will once again open up the doors of City Hall to ordinary people. We must fight for affordable housing, and a budget that will build 1,000 new affordable homes!
* For a city that sweeps trash, not people! *
* For racial justice and human services! *
* For community needs, not corporate greed! *
