You are invited to a showing of Afghan Cycles on January 30 at the New Holly Gathering Hall, presented by Cascade Bicycle Club. The evening will begin with an introduction to the film by the director, Sarah Menzies. This feature documentary is about a generation of Afghan women who are pedaling their own revolution, aggressively challenging gender and cultural barriers while using the bicycle as a vehicle for freedom, empowerment, and social change. We will expand on this theme with a conversation following the film led by local WTF community leaders.
This event is free and open to all self-identifying women, trans, femme, and gender nonconforming people. We respectfully ask that cis-gendered male allies wait this one out, as we will open up screenings for broader audiences at another time.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for mingling and food from That Brown Girl Cooks!
The film will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by discussion that will conclude at 9:30 p.m.
Please note Afghan Cycles includes mentions of gender violence and suicide bombings and is subtitled in English.
