Clarence Eckerson Jr’s Streetfilms are changing the face of bicycle advocacy. Inspirational, poignant, and beautifully shot, these short films document livable streets worldwide in a way that highlights innovation and makes their benefits tangible to the most skeptical audiences.

Beginning as a means to document communities’ efforts to make their streets safer from traffic, Streetfilms is now tackling more complex issues like bus rapid transit, parking policy, police enforcement and the spatial inequity of the way our streets are divided. Many films have had a dramatic effect on the public conscious and policies.

Streetfilms’ video calling for physically separated bike lanes preceded their installation in NYC by just nine months. Now cities from Washington D.C. to Portland have or are installing their own. Streetfilms’ documentation of the weekly car-free event in Bogotá, called Ciclovia, has been used by cities across the country to rally their governments to do the same thing here in the U.S. Cities like Portland, Baltimore, and San Francisco (where the video was actually shown to the mayor) have cited it as integral to convincing leaders to try a similar strategy. It has been watched over 200,000 times on-line.

This special showing of a select lineup of shorts will include a first time public showing of films from their new 10-part series “Moving Beyond the Automobile”, and will feature commentary and a post-film Q&A with filmmaker Clarence Eckerson Jr.
