The Safe Routes to School Mini Grant Program provides grants of up to $1,000 to schools, PTAs, and community groups for education and encouragement programs for walking and biking to school. All public and private K-12 schools within the City of Seattle, PTAs, and other school-related nonprofit groups are eligible to apply for Mini Grants.

Project Eligibility

The primary purpose of Safe Routes to School Mini Grants is to fund activities that support the overall goal of safety education and encouragement for walking and bicycling to school.

Funds can be used for a variety of programs, including (but not limited to):

Student safety patrol
Pedestrian education campaigns
Pedestrian crossing flags
Walk to School Day events
Intersection paintings
Walking School Bus or Bike Train programs
Bicycle safety skills building events

In Fall of 2015, SDOT awarded 17 Mini Grants to schools and community organizations serving public and private schools throughout Seattle. To see these Mini Grant awards, click here.

Application Process

The Mini Grant program has two annual funding cycles: Spring and Fall. Applicants may receive funding once per year.
