We are excited to announce our first ride of 2022!
We are working alongside Cascade Bicycle Club to trace a route from Georgetown to The Green River Trail in Tukwila to bring attention to the Future South Park to Georgetown trail, as well as highlight the missing link extending south to the county trail system. This is a great opportunity for our community members to rub shoulders with organizations that can help us make needed improvements in our area. I’m attaching a graphic you’re welcome to share.
Details:
Seattle to South King County by Trail
Saturday, May 7 10am-Noonish
Options: 9 mile or 20 mile bicycle ride
Please arrive by 9:45am to sign waivers
Start location: Georgetown Playfield and Spray Park, street parking available
Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood and the northern terminus of the Green River Trail are a few miles apart, but are not connected via an all ages bike route. Join us for an education and advocacy ride to hear about final plans for the Georgetown to South Park Trail (coming in 2023) and a project to extend the 19-mile long Green River Trail to Southpark, from where it currently ends in Tukwila. Participants will ride the route, and learn what it will take to make a safe, simple trail connection from South King County communities to Southpark, Georgetown and beyond.
9 mile route: Starts in Georgetown, follows East Marginal Way, over the South Park Bridge, through the South Park neighborhood to the Duwamish Trail and south along West Marginal Way to the Green River Trail and Cecil Moses Park in Tukwila. Turn around at Cecil Moses and return to the ride start.
20 mile ride: Same as 9 mile route, but at turnaround, continue down the Green River Trail to see a new section of the Lake to Sound Trail and the junction of the Green River Trail and the Interurban Trail in Tukwila before looping back to the start.
All are welcome on this no-drop ride, but this is not an all ages and ability route. We will ride a mix of striped paint bike lanes, sharrows, trail, neighborhood greenway, and low traffic roads with no bike lane.
Participants Include: Leafline Trail Coalition members, representatives from the Duwamish Valley Safe Streets, Cascade Bicycle Club, the Seattle Department of Transportation, King County Parks, the City of Kent and many more. Please RSVP by May 5.
Thank you all and I hope some of you can join us! If you would like to speak about your experience riding in the area at key points on the ride please let us know!
