WHEN: Friday, 9/20, 2:00 pm
WHAT: City Council Sustainability and Transportation Committee hearing on pedestrian policy improvements
WHO: YOU!
HOW: Pack the council chambers and hold a sign in favor of protecting and prioritizing people walking and rolling in Seattle. Or show up early and sign up to make a public comment!

Whether you’re joining us at City Hall on Tuesday afternoon or you’re taking a moment to send a message to Councilmembers (see link below) — every of voice support will count in these critical days!

** Are you participating in the Seattle Climate Strike? You’ll be right outside! Stop into the meeting for a few minutes before heading back out to the rally. **

Most of us are pedestrians at some point during our daily routines – whether we’re crossing a parking lot, walking our dog around the block, rolling to a bus stop or grocery store or jogging in the park. From toddlerhood to old age, walking and rolling provide a critical link to our communities. It’s cheap, it’s healthy, and it’s good for our communities, and our planet. But too often the infrastructure that would make it possible for us to walk and roll safely isn’t built or isn’t maintained.

The Seattle Sustainability and Transportation Committee will discuss citywide policy improvements for people walking and rolling, including a new sidewalk maintenance policy and re-timing traffic signals to work for people.

*****

JOIN US AT CITY HALL:
Tuesday September 3rd, 2:00 pm, at Seattle City Hall council chambers (2nd Floor). Stand with us holding signs of support (we will have some available) during the public comment period of the council meeting. We can share talking points if needed. Kids and families very welcome!

The MASS Transportation Package is a proposal from the Move All Seattle Sustainably Coalition to make walking, rolling, biking, and using transit in Seattle safer and more accessible. It’s not a comprehensive vision for transportation in Seattle, but it is a set of projects and policies we believe the City can advance rapidly in 2019. The package includes long overdue policy reforms and investments in sidewalks, bus lanes, and bike paths that our growing city needs.

Read this interview with Seattle Neighborhood Greenways explaining the package: http://seattlegreenways.org/blog/2019/07/31/8527/
