This is a two day mixed road cycling event (deuce) based out of the Lucky Eagle Casino/Hotel in Rochester, WA. Day one is brutal, cruel, spirit crushing. Day two is rubbing salt in the wounds, a nice big cup o’ Thank-You-Sir-May-I-Have-Another. Don’t let the “short” distances or the course profiles fool you — these rides are hard. Right up there with the most taxing events in the state. The climbs are long, steep, and plentiful. And there is lots of gravel. Most of that climbing is on that lots of gravel. As are the descents. Think Gran Fondo Leavenworth but with more gravel and more steep climbs. And a second day. Low gearing recommended (1:1), and a minimum 32mm tire width*. More would be better. You’ve been warned.

This is not a race. It doesn’t need to be. But it’s also not some mamby-pamby no-drop coddle-fest. Carry enough food and water and/or whatever bug juice you prefer to make it to the stops, be able to fix your own s%!+, and help those who need it.

There will be ONE no-host food/water stop each day — Red’s Hop ‘n Market in Malone on day 1, Brooklyn Tavern on day 2. I like to support the local small businesses, so get your re-fueling there. Bring some moolah.

And the most awesome part of the whole thing? The ride is free. That’s right — no entry fee. Nada. But you’re on your own for room and board.

See the event Facebook page for more info.

you make it sound almost irresistible…

  2. If you like challenging rides, it is irresistible. And the free beer doesn’t hurt.
