LITTLE BROOK AND LAKE CITY CLEAN UP NEWS – Sunday April 25th at 1PM

Last summer the Little Brook Clean Ups and the Enjoy Lake City Clean Ups were put on hold due to covid and lack of supplies.  Seattle Dept of Utilities (SPU) has started up Adopt a Street again and we are scheduling clean ups.  The first one is the Enjoy Lake City Spring Clean – Sunday, April 25th from 1pm to 3pm – Meet at 12545 Lake City Way NE for supplies and instructions. If you and your neighbors would like to organize something around your street or in a specific area please reach out to [email protected] to see if we can support you on this day.

In the meantime, SPU and Uplift Northwest, (part of the Millionaire Club) have been busy cleaning up our streets and around parks in Lake City.  It is now so clean that regular Little Brook Cleanups will become more spontaneous.  We still have ideas about plantings along the fence lines on 32nd Ave NE so look for messages about that – AND come up with ideas!!

There have been major flooding problems along Little Brook Creek, specifically at NE 137th St and near the Mirrorwood Apartments on 30th NE.  We are working with TCA (Thornton Creek Alliance) and SPU to come up with solutions and will want input from neighbors who have been impacted by the flood waters.  Please contact me ** if you are interested in this. The TCA Citizen Science group continues to do e coli testing along the creek and we can always use more volunteers.  I have a project in mind at 137th that involves cutting back some invasive vegetation and cleaning out trash along the creek.  This is not an SPU covered clean up since it is on private property.  It would not be covered by insurance like the Adopt a Street program.  If you would be interested, contact me and I will fill in with details.  We would be doing this with permission from the owners and using city environmental guidelines to protect the creek.
