Please join us for our next Lake City Greenways meeting on Wednesday, June 5 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Lake City Branch Library meeting room. This will be the second of our new quarterly meetings, and we have an interesting agenda:

(1) Planning: We will be holding a memorial event on June 22 for Jesse Gurnett, who was killed in the crosswalk at NE 127th and Lake City Way on March 29. It is tentatively planned for 10 a.m. to noon and will likely include a walk, short speeches, and a safety meeting (with SDOT) to discuss ways to make the intersection safer and reduce speeds. Jesse’s family has kindly embraced this event. The driver was allegedly going 45 mph–above the deadly threshold–and Jesse would likely still be alive had they been obeying the speed limit. Seattle Neighborhood Greenways will be helping with this event, and your ideas are needed and welcome.

(2) Safe Routes to School advocacy for John Rogers Elementary. Seattle Neighborhood Greenways has included John Rogers among their 10 priority schools for Safe Routes work. Let’s discuss engagement and collaboration.

(3) Ride for Safe Streets. On Sunday, June 16th, people who walk, bike, ride transit, and roll in any way through our streets are gathering at City Hall to bring attention to the City’s back-pedaling on build-out of the bike, pedestrian, and transit master plans. We would love to ensure strong participation from all corners of our community. Let’s talk. (See also Ride4SafeStreets.org).

(4) Priorities. What are our fondest wishes and most urgent needs for people trying to get safely from point A to B in Lake City? Bring your ideas and concerns.
