2016-04-28T19:45:00-07:00
Where:
Beacon Hill Library

6:00 – 6:15 – Introductions

6:15 – 6:25 – Cheasty Blvd Greenway
As we have discussed before, SDOT has a neighborhood greenway planned for Snoqualmie Street and Cheasty Blvd from Beacon Hill down to Mount Baker / Rainier Valley planned for construction in 2018. We have some initial information from SDOT about the project and are planning to schedule a scouting ride in May (hopefully in coordination with Rainier Valley Greenways).
6:25 – 6:30 – Summer Parkways 2016
The Summer Parkways program is back in 2016, and this year will have a route in the Rainier Valley from Columbia City to Othello Park. Jordan Adams will tell us about the details of the event, which is scheduled for August 13, and how we can participate.
6:30 – 6:45 – Bylaws
We have put together some proposed bylaws (attached) for the group to try to keep everything organized and above board. If you can, please review them before the meeting. We will have some time to discuss the draft bylaws, make any necessary modifications, and hopefully approve them.
The bylaws are pretty simple and straightforward. Here is a high-level summary:
Membership: anyone is eligible to vote as long as they have some connection to Beacon Hill and have been a member of the Google Group (receiving emails) for more than 30 days
Governance structure: the bylaws are flexible in order to allow people to volunteer in whatever way makes sense for them. There must be at least one Chair, but Co-Chairs are also allowed. The bylaws set forth some different roles to which people can be elected (GDDC Representive, Community Liaison, Membership Coordinator, Spokeperson, Scribe), but those can also be handled by the Chair / Co-Chairs. Finally, people can propose their own roles, which can be approved by a majority vote, so we wouldn’t be bound to the specific positions described in the bylaws.
If the bylaws are approved, I’ll put myself forward for a vote for one of the “Chair” positions (since that’s pretty much what I’ve been doing already). If you are interested in volunteering for any of these roles (or in a different capacity), please let me know.
6:45 – 7:45 – Goals / Vision
We want to devote the bulk of this month’s meeting to a discussion of what kinds of issues the group should prioritize. Ideally, we’d like to leave the meeting with specific short-term (e.g., within a year), medium-term (1-3 years), and long-term (3+ years) goals for which we should be organizing and advocating.
Project / Policy goals
We obviously will have some short-term and long-term goals around the Beacon Hill Town Center project we have been working on, but what else? Upgrades to the existing neighborhood greenway? Extension of the Chief Sealth Trail? Other specific ped / bike projects?
Remember, our scope is all of Beacon Hill, so we want to hear about issues throughout the entire neighborhood.
Organizational goals
We also probably want to set goals for the group itself, in terms of membership, outreach, etc. Grow membership to X? Build relationship with X community organization / business? Engage with X organization or aspect of the community?
Please bring your ideas! Now is the time for us to prioritize and be clear about what we want to achieve.
If we have time, we can also start talking about and planning specific tactics to achieve those goals.
