In November 1962, the then 22-year-old Stücke left his job as a tool and die maker and rode out of his hometown on a three-speed bike, with a dream to explore the world on two wheels. The now 75 year old cyclist chose a Brompton bike for the final 5 years of his travels. 50 years, 196 countries, 21 passports, 378,000 miles and 100,000 photos later, Heinz Stücke is returning to the USA for a near 3,000 mile trip from Seattle (Washington) to Chicago (Illinois) from May to July 2016.
Now the focus of a book ‘Home is Elsewhere: 50 years around the world by bike’ by Eric van den Berg, Stücke will be appearing in Seattle at Montlake Bicycle Shop at 7.30pm May 17 for a book signing and talk about how others can fulfil their dreams of packing in the day job for life on the road.
