Trail Alert 8/21-26: Burke-Gilman and Ship Canal Trail repaving in Fremont/Queen Anne

The good news is that some of the busiest and bumpiest sections of the Burke-Gilman and Ship Canal Trails in the Fremont/Queen Anne area are getting repaved this week.

The planned detours could be interesting, though. For example, what neighborhood street is parallel to the trail between 36th and 40th? Leary Way certainly isn’t bike friendly.

And the Fremont Market will close the detour route designated for Sunday, so they may need a detour detour.

I might actually start riding my bike to work again.

Is there any reason why SDOT can’t put in a temporary bike lane on Leary, aside from the usual histrionics from drivers?

For some reason, the Google maps inserts aren’t showing up for me. Pleeeease tell me they’re getting the rootsy “rumble strips” in front of that nursery school on the ship canal trail.

Try again. I think I fixed the map image issue.

I just biked on the Ship Canal Trail, and I didn’t see any evidence of construction. The trail had certainly not been repaved. What’s going on? Have they cancelled the project?

Check the SDOT link for updates. Looks like the ship canal is going to be 8/28-30; B-G after Labor Day.
