NEWS

• Seattle
  • SDOT released scoping documents of the Roosevelt RapidRide Corridor project for a 40-day public review, which will provide express bus service from downtown to the future Roosevelt light rail station. The project includes protected bike lanes along Fairview Avenue N near Lake Union, Eastlake Avenue N through the Eastlake neighborhood, and along 11th/12th Avenues through the U District. The current design would require north-bound bicyclists to cross from a right-side protected bike lane to a left-side protected bike lane somewhere north of the University Bridge.   • SDOT began planning a new RapidRide H line from downtown, through Delridge, to White Center and Burien. The project will include bike improvements, especially in Delridge. (SDOT)
  • SDOT released its 90% design work for the NE 65th Street Vision Street Project. My understanding is that the project will install protected bike lanes for most of the stretch from Ravenna Blvd to 20th Ave NE (SDOT, Urbanist, Seattle Bike Blog)
  • The Department of Neighborhoods announced several recipients of Community Partnership Fund grants, including projects for a community crosswalk at 7th & Westlake in downtown, pedestrian safety improvements to N 137th Street, pedestrian safety improvements in Broadview, and a Community Mobility Vision plan for the U District.   • SDOT recently added protected bike lanes and sidewalk improvements as part of a repaving of Northlake Way N near the University Bridge. (Urbanist)
• Around the Region
  • WSDOT will open the new bike path on the SR520 floating bridge across Lake Washington on Dec. 20 at 3pm. (Curbed, WSDOT)
  • Lynnwood is studying how to make 168th St SW safer for people walking & biking from 44th Ave W to the Meadowdale Playfields. (MyEdmonds)
  • Bothell approved the purchase of the entirety of the Wayne Golf Course, which is slated to become a nature preserve, park, and destination for people biking on the Burke-Gilman, Sammamish River, and Tolt Pipeline Trails. (Bothell-Kenmore Reporter)
  • Kenmore received $28 million from several sources to fund a new West Sammamish River Bridge, which will include improved side paths for people walking and biking. Construction will start in 2019. (Kenmore)
  • The state Transportation Improvement Board awarded Mercer Island with $500,000 for improving walking and biking safety on SE 40th Street between Island Crest Way and 88th Ave SE, providing key safety improvements to Northwood Elementary and Mercer Island High School. (Mercer Island Reporter)
  • Along the Eastside Rail Trail Corridor, King County removed the rails and graded smooth a new base layer of gravel trail from Coulon Park up to N. 37th Street, north of Kennydale Beach Park. Crews are presently removing tracks and ties from areas around the Seahawk’s Virginia Mason Athletic Center (VMAC) and Ripley Lane. Sections of the interim gravel trail have been graded smooth with a base course of gravel; an additional layer of finely crushed, compacted, ADA accessible gravel will go on top of this base.   • North Bend and Si View Metro Parks named the newly acquired, 32-acre future park “Tennant Trailhead Park,” which is at the foothills of Rattlesnake Ridge. Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance will design and install new mountain bike trails in the park. (Snoqualmie Valley News)
    • Sumner drafted a new Parks & Trails Plan that includes creating new connections from the Sumner Link to the Interurban and Foothills Trails. (The News Tribune)

RECENTLY STOLEN BIKES

Fifteen bicycles were listed as stolen in the Seattle-area to Bike Index, and eight bikes were reported as stolen to the Seattle Police Department in the last week. In case your bike is ever stolen, make sure you’ve registered your bike on Bike Index. The website for Bicycle Security Advisors provides more information about how to keep your bike safe.
