Mayor-elect Ed Murray came to the aid of a woman who crashed this morning while biking near the Lakeview Boulevard overpass on Capitol Hill.

The woman crashed shortly before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, and Seattle’s next mayor himself helped her by talking to her and staying with her until medics arrived.

Details from the Seattle Times:

Murray was riding in a vehicle with his Seattle police security detail when they came upon a woman who had crashed her bike, said Jeff Reading, Murray’s spokesman. The woman was on the side of the road.

“Ed got out and his security got out and they just stayed with her,” Reading said. ”They had some towels and helped with her face. Asked her some questions then help came.”

We wish her a full and speedy recovery.

Holy shit! That was me! I crashed my bike on the overpass this morning and face-planted into the sidewalk (I got distracted by the gorgeous view). I had no idea that was Ed Murray! Just thought it was some guy in a suit. Anyway, I’m mostly ok. Have a concussion, a black eye, and a swollen lip. Several kind people stopped to help me in addition to Mr. Murray, including a medical student and another woman who stayed with me while we waited for an ambulance, so thanks to them too!

So glad to hear you are “mostly ok!”

Thanks to everyone who helped out, and thank you for letting us know you’re doing alright.

I too have nearly wiped out on that overpass because of the view. It’s a great one. Glad you’re okay!

So great to have a positive story. Speedy recovery!

  3. Kevin H says:

I use that overpass each morning, and I totally know what you mean, it’s the best view of my commute!

Before I retired, that was my commute too! I never realized the view was that dangerous!

    • David Amiton says:

the view…coupled with the shoddy pavement…plus the debris on the shoulder…multiplied by the cars speeding to pass you around the curve…but i digress! the view is great!

      • Anya says:

Yeah, while this crash was entirely my fault, it’s surprising I haven’t had any accidents on that overpass as a result of all the things you listed. The potholes at the top of the pass are pretty gnarly, and cars love to speed by me with barely inches to spare when I ride up the hill. And despite all that it was the view that did me in.

Thank you everyone for the well-wishes!

Thank you mayor Murray for stopping to help her. You just got 10 gold stars in my book for that. We might have another mayor who is sympathetic to cyclists and that would be great.

  6. Gary says:

    Yes, Thank you Mr. Murray!
