Bicycle Urbanism Symposium kicks off two days of bike talks, workshops and – of course – rides

The Bicycle Urbanism Symposium kicks off today (Wednesday) with a Youth Engagement Workshop and an opening reception that is open to the public ($20 if not registered).

First, a blog note: I am back in Seattle and playing catchup after a week in Denver. So my apologies for the late notice about this.

The multi-day Bicycle Urbanism Symposium is hosted by the UW College of Built Environments and aims to “bring together practitioners, academics, policy makers and advocates with diverse backgrounds including urban design, planning, transportation, engineering, landscape architecture, and public policy.”

The symposium really gets going Thursday and Friday with a packed lineup of talks, panels and workshops all about bicycling and cities (see session descriptions below). The Thursday morning keynote speaker will be John Pucher, who also gave a talk at the UW Tuesday and recently went on a bikeability tour of Vancouver, BC, organized by Seattle Neighborhood Greenways.

Yours truly will moderate a panel Thursday at 3:30 featuring Cascade’s Evan Manvel, Councilmember Tom Rasmussen and SDOT’s Sara Zora. So obviously, that alone is worth the registration fee!
