A terrible person (or persons) has stolen two handcycles from a Renton man who leads an organization for paralyzed veterans.

Ernie Butler, the executive director of the Northwest Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America, reported the bikes stolen November 7. Anyone with information should call the Renton Police Department at 425-430-7529, case number 12-12142.

Butler discovered the two handcycles missing on Nov. 7 from the secured parking garage of his north Renton apartment, according to the Renton Police Department.

One of his handcycles is a bright red racing handcycle, a Top End “Force R.” The second handcycle is a silver Freedom Ryder “lean steer” tricycle with a rear axle that twists from side to side so the rider can maneuver.

Once an Air Force pararescue specialist, Butler was a competitive skydiver until a 1995 mid-air accident left him paralyzed below the waist, according to Renton Police.

If the handcycles aren’t recovered, I hope a fund is started so that we can donate to help him replace them.

^^^ So start a fund. Let’s say if in 2 weeks there are no solid leads (or recovered) we send whatever we can to you in trust. Stick together, ride together and be safe. Happy Holidays!!!

I and family members will do a part to buy a bike; Have you researched what a comparable race bike will cost? (I bet a good bike shop will discount for this cause is asked) Let me know where you (we) stand on this. Thanks, Ben
