39th Ave NE neighborhood greenway opens next week with Oct 26 party

Though several planned neighborhood greenways have been delayed, including projects in Ballard and West Seattle, one promising neighborhood greenway is almost complete in Northeast Seattle. Neighbors, supporters and Seattle Children’s will celebrate the grand opening of the route October 26 with a Halloween-themed Friday morning bike ride.

The route is funded by Seattle Children’s at part of their $4 million Liveable Streets Initiative.

  1. Does anyone know if the finishing touches on this will include lights or reflectors to mark the new turnoff from the BGT to 39th? I’ve been using it but I have trouble seeing where to leave the trail in the dark – the way the trees are, it’s a shadow among shadows until you’re almost on top of it.

Seems like a nice place for some reflective guerrilla art.

  2. I hope the arterial crossings are clearer than the photo line additions! I suspect they will be. This greenway comes within two blocks of my parents’ house and I used it regularly in the olden days before even the Burke-Gilman trail was built.

  3. Congratulations to the northeast folk on getting this done. This is a place, like Wallingford, where there are lots of great side street routes that naturally fit as greenways. I’ll give this one a shot next I’m in the neighborhood.
