Thursday: Cycling Sojourner talks bike touring at Gregg’s Bellevue Cycle

Portland’s Ellee Thalheimer (yes, another biking and writing Elly/ee from Portland) is headed to town to promote her book: Cycling Sojourner: A Guide to the Best Multi-day Tours in Oregon.

Thalheimer’s book has advice for people of all income levels interested in bike touring in Oregon, according to a preview in the Oregonian:

Thalheimer covers both ends of the spectrum from free BLM campgrounds to hotels with bike valet parking and pillow menus (i.e. the Oxford Hotel in Bend, where you get to choose what kind of pillow you like).

She includes eight multiday routes, from a beginner-friendly route through Willamette Valley wine country to the lung-buster up Steens Mountain in southeast Oregon.

Though “credit-card” cyclo-tourists (who needs a tent when you have a Visa card and a nice B&B where you can flash it?) are well served in the book, Thalheimer gives lots of tips for the frugal, too.

Details on the reading:

6 p.m., Gregg’s Bellevue Cycle

My two-year task of finding the best multi-day cycling tours in Oregon, and transmuting that information into a guidebook, is done. Phew! And the book turned out fabulously. Please come support and celebrate Cycling Sojourner: A Guide to the Best Multi-day Tours in Oregon at Gregg’s Cycle in Bellevue. I’ll be selling books, and there will be a slide show presentation from my Oregon touring adventures. A portion of the book’s proceeds goes to the outstanding Community Cycling Center in Portland, Oregon. I would absolutely love to see you there and please invite your friends. It should be fun!
Thanks!
Love,
Ellee

P.S. I encourage you to buy the book on my website if you can’t make the event but are jonesing for a copy.

Do you have suggestions for good Washington bike touring guides? Let us know in the comments!

Phew?!?… don’t you mean “Weeee!” I just spent two years riding my bicycle around Oregon and you losers probably are still working a desk… If nothing else, this book made my trips a tax writeoff even if I don’t make a dime selling it.
