Ichiro’s crashed bicycle is centerpiece of museum in Japan

In 2004, the year Ichiro broke George Sisler’s record for most hits in an MLB season, the Seattle P-I asked Ichiro to describe the most painful injury he’s ever had. The Mariners star responded with an answer that had nothing to do with the many physical strains that come with life as a professional baseball star:

When I was a high school student, I was riding my bicycle to school and a car hit me on the side, struck my leg. It didn’t break, but it was very swollen. I couldn’t play for a month.

Now, as the Seattle Times reports, that crashed bicycle is the centerpiece of a museum curated by Ichiro’s parents in Toyoyama, Japan.

But that celebrity stuff is kept largely to the side. More front and center is the bicycle Ichiro rode to high school, a silver Kamakiri hanging from the wall with its big plastic basket attached to the front. One of the handlebars is scraped, damaged when Ichiro was hit by a car as a teenager.
