Queen Anne Greenways, a neighborhood group working to increase mobility, accessibility and flexibility in our streets, will be sponsoring its second annual Playstreet on Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in 1st Avenue North at Crockett Street. Activities will include scooters, pedal cars, blocks, chalk, hula hoops, Foosball and other equipment made available by Gina Saxby, Director of the QA Community Center. The QACC may also provide staff demonstrations of class activities. In coordination with Brittany Ryan, Director of the Queen Anne Farmers’ Market, the Greenways group will sponsor the Snake Suspenderz band from 5:00 to 7:00 pm to entertain both the Playstreet and Market. Blue Highway Games’ Scott Cooper will again bring both table and yard games to provide some challenging group activities.
Several new activities will make their debuts this year. For the older children, Don Cheyette of Seattle Adventure Sports will be setting up his mobile climbing wall. This well-supervised action activity will introduce the popular Northwest sport of climbing to those who haven’t yet had a chance to try it. Christine Woten, Children’s Librarian at the Queen Anne Public Library, will be offering activities and crafts with a more cerebral bent; and for those who just like to dress up and have a good time, Liz McQuiston of Once Upon a Time children’s store will be giving away balloons and other surprises. And if all of this proves to be too stimulating, Corey Lynn Atencio will be giving a Yoga session at 4:30 pm to calm your nerves – and prepare you for more activity.
Finally, there will be lots of food available, courtesy of the fleet of food trucks that serve the Farmers’ Market. The Playstreet will provide tables and chairs which families can use for dinner and other group activities.
Queen Anne Greenways Core group members will be on hand at their information booth and circulating through the event. This group has also done the background and planning work for the event. It includes Mark Spitzer, Juliette Delfs, Michael Herschensohn, Jody and Bill Lemke, Mark Ostrow, Louise Franklin, Heather Trim, Andrew Koved, and Schaun Valdovinos.
Support for this year’s Playstreet has been provided by the Queen Anne Community Center Advisory Board and the Queen Anne Chamber of Commerce.
