The Montlake Bridge will be closed from 7 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday for the opening of boating season.

If you need a detour route suggestion, check out our post from a University Bridge closure earlier this year.

Details on the closure from WSDOT:

Boating season marks the unofficial start to summer in Seattle for motorists and mariners alike. With more nautical traffic, drivers should expect additional delays on both the State Route 520 Bridge and the State Route 513 Montlake Bridge.

On Saturday, May 4, drivers will need to plan ahead and take an alternate route because the Montlake Bridge will close to vehicle and foot traffic from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. to allow about 900 boats to sail through the cut as part of the opening day of boating season.

Quick bone to pick with this news release: How come only drivers will “need to plan ahead?” It really isn’t convenient to walk or bike miles out of the way, either.

The linked WSDOT page currently says the closure is *10* am to 4 pm.

Oh, cool. They changed it since we posted. I’ve updated the post accordingly. Good catch.

Tom, can you change the time on the post title too? Thanks!

      Oh, ha! Yes. Thanks.

Thanks. I’d been trying to figure out how I was getting to the north side of the cut via bus tomorrow morning, and that meant I couldn’t tell if the bridge being “closed” meant that the bridge would actually be raised, or just closed to vehicle traffic. In my thinking, the bridge being raised would actually have the bridge opened, but no one can use an open drawbridge.

I was further annoyed to find out that the bridge was NOT closed to foot traffic, as it is a prime viewing location for the races themselves. I should say that my annoyance is purely at not being able to find the INFORMATION, and that WSDOT was publishing faulty information.

The bridge always stays down for the crew races and return of the rowers through the cut. About noon it is lifted once the boat parade starts to let the sailboats through. Worked like that for decades, not sure why WSDOT can’t provide better information.

Was surprised to see that the Burke Gilman was closed to bikes today (Sunday) in Fremont due to the food rodeo. At 1pm you could not even walk a bike thru there. No detour signage. Lines for the truck blocked the trail completely at points. Do you know I could find out it this closure was issued a permit by the city?
    Thanks,
    D

More accurately on the BG signs required riders to dismount and walk, which one could barely do.
