Melrose Promenade kicks off new phase with community walk Wednesday

The Melrose Promenade Advisory Committee is getting ready to hold their first community visioning meeting with the project’s consultant team. The group is meeting Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Bauhaus Coffee at Melrose and Pine.

The project aims to redesign Melrose Ave and the trail through Bellevue Place Park into a more inviting place to walk and bike. Already popular for people biking, it will likely be an even more important bike route connection if and when improvements are made to Pike/Pine and Lakeview Blvd. The group, with the help of Central Seattle Greenways, received a grant for design work on the park and promenade. If you have yet to get involved, this would be a great time to be a part of the conversation that shapes the future of the vastly underutilized space.

Join us for our next Melrose Promenade Advisory Committee meeting!

We are officially kicking off our community visioning process by meeting with our consultants, the team of the Berger Partnership, Weinstein AU, and Schemata Workshop.

At 5pm, we will meet in front of Bauhaus at Melrose and Pine and proceed to walk the length of the Promenade looking for inspiration. And, at 6pm will be our regular advisory committee meeting at the Capitol Hill Library (425 Harvard Avenue East).

Over the next several months, our consultants will be working with us to lead a series of public meetings to further develop our vision for all that the Melrose Promenade can one day be, and they will be joining us for the walk and our meeting. In addition, at the meeting we will also be discussing our applications to Opportunity Fund and the Neighborhood Street Fund grant programs. Hope to see you then!

  1. OH NOES INVASION OF THE HAPPY CLIP-ART PEOPLE GENTRIFYING THE MELROSE PROMENADE!!!11!

Except probably not, unless something can be done about noise from I-5. I’m not sure any “architecture | interior design | landscape architecture | planning & urban design” can change that, but for a single still you can choose any angle you like.

“architecture that will mitigate the noise”… sure there is, a lid.

I used to ride this trail as an alternative way around Capital Hill to South Lake Union and it always felt sketchy, however even the bums seem to avoid this space and rarely was there glass on the trail. I hope they terrace the hill into a pea patch space.

Also plan for an overpass for pedestrains and cyclists, I’ve heard talk of one at Thomas street, but one that crossed at the Southern end of this trail, at Republican?

In any case I’m glad that the neighborhood is working to take control of this space.
