Seattle Bike Polo doc part of NY Bicycle Film Fest + Newbie Sundays at Cal Anderson

One of the films featured in this weekend’s New York Bicycle Film Festival is a documentary about Seattle’s Bike Polo scene (h/t Biking Bis). We stake a claim to being the founding city for modern hardcourt bike polo, which is now a global sensation.

You can catch some of the best players in the world swinging mallets at Cal Anderson and Judkins Parks, like the 2012 Cascadia Cup champions: The Guardians. Monday nights at Cal Anderson are team nights, which is a great chance to see some of the best polo in town.

Getting started

What’s that? You’d like to learn to play polo? Well, the wonderful folks at 206 Bike Polo have officially designated Sundays from 2-4 as Newbie Night at Cal Anderson (nevermind that it’s in the afternoon).

They also have a great FAQ for people who want to give polo a try for the first time.

  1. Thanks for the kind words, yeah 2-4pm in the afternoon and hopefully as time goes on(and more people show up) it will extend into the evening (thus newbie night). for now it is open to everyone and mallets are provided to have fun in the sun.
