Bike News Roundup: Creating a ‘human-sized street pattern’

It’s time for the Tuesday Bike News Roundup! This is an open thread.

First up, a fantastic reminder that we can undo our urban design mistakes. First Utrecht demolished their urban center to make way for cars. Then they undid it.

Oh those crazy Dutch. Now they’ll just have to rip down those new buildings to make way for cars again…. or is it that they will ban bicycles in favor of ox-carts? :>

On the topic of drunk drivers. Sad indeed, that drunk drivers have killed more people than all other murderers combined. But why do we only count DRUNK drivers? If you are lucky enough to kill somebody with your car when you’re sober, we’re supposed to just understand that accidents happen?

The “Bridge to Nowhere” article about the Airport Way shutdown states:

“The detour route is being monitored, maintained and modified as needed.”

It doesn’t seem like any of that monitoring is being done by bike or foot, the detours are a mess without any real effort to accommodate anyone not driving a vehicle.
