Cascade Bicycle Club members, tonight is your last chance to vote in the mega-election to replace the battle-worn Board of Directors. If you are unsure who to vote for, you can meet the candidates at the candidate forum tonight from 6:30 – 9 p.m. at The Brig, (Building 406), Magnuson Park, 6344 NE 74th Street, 98115.
So what’s at stake? Gene from Biking Bis sums it up well:
A lot was said at the time about what direction Cascade should go: Grassroots advocacy? A tightly controlled staff? Support for those who “take the lane” and ride their bikes everywhere or for those who only participate in weekend recreational rides?

This is one of the best chances to decide the future of the club, as seven members of the existing board of directors say they will resign after the nine new board members are sworn in.

Poor summation, Gene. Even poorer understanding of the choices that CBC members get to make. I’d love to know what “grassroots advocacy” means in this context. And what exactly does “tightly controlled staff” imply? Does Gene have a crystal ball that said that the past board was all about authoritarian micromanagement? I seriously doubt it.
This whole episode has been ridiculous. More importantly, it’s a lost opportunity to make CBC a more effective organization.
After seeing group health take over(well, sort of), I’m completely leery of the CBC now.
Hopefully the election will change the direction of the group, if not then I know which cycling organization I’ll avoid like the plague.
