Bike Porn: Inspiring a ‘transportationally aware sex culture’ in Seattle (NSFW?)

Note: A milestone! Seattle Bike Blog’s first ever post that might not be safe for work (if your work embraces “puritanical, anti-expression ideals”).

A film tour is coming to town to foster a “sex positive bike culture” in Seattle. Or is it a “transportationally aware sex culture?” Whatever! It’s Bike Porn, and it will be here February 5-6.

I asked Reverend Phil, the festival’s organizer, what to expect from Bike Porn: 4 Play.

This year we have a really thoughtful piece from Australia that was shot on 16mm that is beautiful and tender, as well as a pair of late entries that have just been added to the program from New York that involve bikes as static machines, and a fantastic video with a variety of sexual prepositions and expressions from some first time filmmakers in the Appalachians. I really love that one, it has the most engaging poem comparing the opening cherry blooms on a Spring day to a distracted biker’s cracked skull… topless, with ferry wings.

So you’re saying it’s not just pictures of pretty bikes then? Nope. The festival showcases DIY films exploring sex and bicycles. The Reverend describes the festival as sex positive. The call for submissions put it this way:

We want to see the human/bicycle condition represented in a new exciting way. We want to have our feelings on sexuality challenged. We want an unprecedented amount of consensual sexual energy!

In an email, the Reverend said encouraging expression is the goal:

This is our civic duty. By creating a forum for learning and sharing of ideas we hope to help relieve the puritanical, anti-expression ideals that keep people from speaking out.

There will be three screenings in two days in Seattle as part of the Northern Exposure Tour:

And now, for your viewing pleasure (don’t worry, it’s on YouTube so it can’t be THAT nasty), the trailer:

  1. huzza! thanks for sharing the good word!

the show at CSPC is open to anyone, altho there is a discount for members. But there is also a discount for couples at all shows (be prepared to prove that you are coupled if you want the discount! ;)

gawd i hate emotocons, but they feel necessary with all the snark.

  2. Please come out and show your support for this exciting movement. Witness the greatest bike erotica as William Thomas Porter and Andrew H. Shirley screen their epic FUCK BIKE #001

  3. Seattle can do better than this.
