Man, I move into a neighborhood and all of a sudden it’s open season on cyclists (clearly, I’m exaggerating). Following an August 30 incident I reported earlier, a biker told police he was attacked by a car and called a racial slur while riding on Roosevelt near NE 56th. The victim in the August 30 incident was also called a racial slur before being hit by the vehicle driver. There is no indication the two attacks are connected, but let’s keep an eye out for racist, bike-hating drivers in the area.
Around 9:45 a.m. September 6, the cyclist was riding in the new bike lane on Roosevelt when a car pulled up next to him, according to the police report. The passenger in the vehicle yelled, “Dumb nigger!” at the biker and threw a grocery bag at him, hitting him in the head. He was injured in some way, but the report does not specify.
The victim told police he could hear the passenger laughing loudly as the car sped off. However, the victim was unable to provide a plate number or good description of the car, other than saying it was a small, dark-colored car. No witnesses came forward and the officer could not find the grocery bag.
